Nascar Phoenix raceway

Nascar Phoenix Raceway

Opened in 1964, the 1-mile raceway is a state-of-the-art low banked, tri-oval track. It has a unique dogleg (a kind of kink) on the backstretch, which has helped to create some thrilling finishes, making it home to some of the most memorable moments in racing history. Extremely popular with both fans and drivers alike, the raceway has been renovated through the years to enhance the racing experience for everyone.

Yearly NASCAR Events in Phoenix

Each year, there are two major NASCAR race weekends at Phoenix Raceway with the following events:

NASCAR Cup Championship: The most prestigious NASCAR racing series, the Cup Series covers more laps than any other. Cars weigh 100 pounds more than those in the others; their underbodies are completely sealed alongside rear diffusers, and they feature independent rear suspension. Bottom line: Cup Series cars boast the most power.

NASCAR Xfinity Championship: A stepping stone for aspiring Cup Series champions, the Xfinity event is often held as a support race on the day before a Cup Series event. The Xfinity Series features cars with narrower tires, more traditional underbody aerodynamics, and truck arm suspension.

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Championship: Ranked third tier in NASCAR events, it’s the only NASCAR series featuring production pickup truck-based stock cars. It’s also the newest racing competition to date.
